Beach Plastic Survey

The aim of this survey is to identify the probable sources of plastic pollution in the seas around Thailand and suggest solutions. This survey is being conducted in several locations in the Northern Gulf of Thailand and the results mapped.

Procedure

Measure and mark a 10m section of beach/shore from waterline to high tide mark.

Sort the plastic waste present into categories and tally the number of items in each category.

Construct a pie chart showing the proportion of waste by source. Use the categories;

food and drink vending (e.g. foam containers, water and drinks bottles, straws)

domestic waste (e.g. clothing, toiletry containers plastic household items)

Fishing (e.g.nets, rope, floats)

Other. Stuff that doesn't fall in to one of these categories like foam packaging,
