Cruises for Young Sailors

We are offering 3 to 5 day sailing cruises for teenage children on our 50’ yacht Kao Phetploy (9 diamonds)

For these cruises, unaccompanied youngsters will be under the care of Mr and Mrs Mallia, both of whom have years of experience running International School boarding houses.

We will teach the children how to crew and manage a cruising boat, developing their skills whether they are beginners or experienced sailors in dinghys or bigger boats

Learning to sail

Tony Mallia is a UK Royal Yachting Association Yachtmaster (Offshore) and an experienced teacher of sailing and seamanship. He has owned several yachts over 30 years and has cruised extensively in UK, Norwegian, Malaysian and Thai waters.

Our yacht and cruising grounds. Kao Phetploy is a Celestial 48 with a 50’ overall length. Licensed for 14, she sleeps 8 people below decks or, more popular in our tropical climate, on deck under the stars. See pages "Accommodation" and "Phetploy interior"

She is based in khlong Na Jomtien close to Ocean Marina. From there a day sailing can take us to Koh Sichang to the North, Cha Am to the West or Samae San to the South and East. Further afield we can visit Koh Samed, Koh Chang and the East coast of the peninsula down to the Samui archipelago.

The basis of the teaching will be the modified course content of the RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses. Depending on the starting point of the crew member this can include:

  • Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, her rigging and sails,

  • sail handling, ropework,

  • personal safety equipment, man overboard, emergency equipment, seasickness

  • helmsmanship,

  • general duties, manners and customs,

  • navigation and pilotage,

  • rules of the road,

  • yacht handling under power,

  • yacht handling under sail,

  • passage making,
